LIMITATIONS ARE ONLY PERCEPTIONS

Around here, we believe in dreaming big. More importantly, we believe in people who push beyond their limits to make their dreams a reality. People who say “I will” not “I wish,” those are our people. Men and women who don’t let realism set the limits of what they can achieve… yeah, we like those people. Because if that’s your mindset, ‘impossible’ is just another day at the office...

Meet Anders Hofman. He’s one of us, and this is the story of Project Iceman.

Project Iceman is the attempt to complete the first-ever, World Record-breaking, Ironman triathlon distance in Antarctica in February 2020. To reach that goal, Anders started in Svalbard, Norway, the northernmost city in the world, only 1,000 kilometers from the North Pole. This was his trial run, and what you are about to see is extraordinary.

“Today, we often put boundaries on ourselves (or others) and make up limitations of what we think is achievable. I'm here to show that these limitations are only perceptions of what we can achieve. Everyone can achieve the extraordinary through passion, extreme dedication, supreme planning, and an immense belief in yourself.”

"I think most people would have brushed Anders off, but when we heard it, we knew it was something we had to get behind. He just fully embodies what ‘live your legacy’ is all about. Don’t get me wrong, what he’s doing is crazy, but it’s the kind of crazy that’s going to inspire a lot of people."

THE NORTHERNMOST TRIATHLON EVER ATTEMPTED

In May of 2019, Anders and his team arrived in Svalbard to attempt half the distance he is looking to do in 2020. On the day, the temperature was -2 degrees Celsius, -10 with the wind chill. Anders was set to swim in Isfjorden, the second largest fjord in Svalbard, and bike and run through Adventdalen, a valley surrounded by mountains, stretching 35 kilometers long. If successful it would be the northernmost triathlon ever completed.

SWIM - 1.9 KM

With a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius, and wind strong enough to make waves, the open waters of Svalbard were unforgiving. Even with the obstacles, Anders was able to finish in 46:09 minutes.

BIKE - 90 KM

The valley had snow so deep and winds so strong that for a period, Anders could not get on his bike without falling. But after every fall, he got up. Again, and again, and again, he got up because he knew he hadn’t reached his limit.

RUN - 21.1 KM

At this point in the race, every part of Anders’ body was sore and cold. However, he knows it’s not about his body; it’s a mental game. So he kept running and kept pushing forward until he reached the finish line.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR ANDERS

In February of 2020, Anders will attempt to double the distance he just accomplished, but in even harsher conditions by completing the full Ironman distance in Antarctica. It will be a record-breaking race that will push the boundaries of the human body and mind. Anders is proof that your only limits are the ones you set for yourself, and a great example of someone living his legacy. If you would like to follow Anders’ journey, you can visit www.projecticeman.com or follow him on Instagram @andershofman.
